RICHMOND – On Wednesday afternoon, Major League Baseball's Oakland Athletics selected VCU Baseball senior outfielder and 2017 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year Logan Farrar with the 1071st pick in the 36th round of the 2017 MLB Draft.
Farrar becomes the 48th draft pick in program history, and the first since both Vimael Machin and Daniel Concepcion were both drafted in 2015. However, Farrar is the first VCU Ram to be selected by the Athletics organization.
The outfielder from Woodbridge, Va. put together arguably his best season in Black & Gold in 2017, as Farrar went out and batted a career-best .365 playing in 55 of 57 games. He added 17 doubles, eight home runs, and 32 RBI, finishing with a team-best 125 total bases. He slugged .543, and scored 50 runs throughout his senior campaign. Those stats led him to not only the A-10 Player of the Year honor, but was also named A-10 First Team All-Conference.
Named to the 2014 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team and 2015 Atlantic 10 Second Team All-Conference, Farrar leaves Richmond second all-time in career at-bats, fourth on the all-time hits list, and eighth in career runs in VCU program history. A member of the 2015 Super Regional squad, Farrar's career moments are best summed up in that run, with a diving catch to clinch the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championship, as well as leading off Game 1 of the Super Regional at Miami with a home run over the right field fence.
