FRISCO, Texas – Former Ram Joe Van Meter is now a little closer to reaching his dream of being a Major Leaguer.

On Sunday, Van Meter received that news that he had been promoted to Double-A Frisco in the Texas Rangers organization. He has spent the majority of the past two seasons with Advancded-A level Myrtle Beach.

This year with the Pelicans, Van Meter had been used in a variety of roles, posting a 3-4 mark with a 3.48 ERA in 23 appearances. In 51.2 innings of work, he has allowed 51 hits, while striking out 62 and walking 25.

Van Meter was drafted in the 21st round of the 2010 MLB Draft by the Rangers after a stellar three-year career at VCU.

The New York native is one of six former Rams in the minor leagues, joining Cody Eppley (Rochester – Triple A, Twins), Ian Thomas (Mississippi - Double A, Braves), Kyle Haynes (West Virginia – Single A, Pirates), Blake Hauser (Clinton – Single A, Mariners) and Cody Yount (Bristol – Rookie, White Sox).

That's in addition to the three former VCU standouts currently with MLB squads including Brandon Inge (Pirates), Sean Marshall (Reds – DL) and Scott Sizemore (A's – DL).
