RICHMOND, Va. – Following a breakout season in the VCU bullpen, sophomore closer Matt Lees (pictured right) was named to the 2013 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-East Region Second Team on Friday.
Lees, who led the Rams with 30 appearances, recorded 11 saves and threw 51.2 innings this past season. The Richmond, Va. native finished the year allowing only 12 runs, just seven earned, with a 1.22 ERA, and 39 strikeouts.
The ABCA formed in 1945 and recognizes eight all-region teams, as well as an All-American team, which will be announced this weekend. The East Region consists of 16 Division I baseball programs from New Jersey to North Carolina.
Lees' 11 saves in 2013 places him in third place on VCU single-season saves list. The sophomore has already compiled 13 career saves, which is good for fifth place on VCU's career list.
