CUJAS NAMED CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK AFTER SOLID PERFORMANCE AGAINST LONG BEACH STATE

RICHMOND, Va. – The VCU Baseball team is only three games into the 2012 campaign, but sophomore infielder Joey Cujas is already making waves throughout the country and the Colonial Athletic Association.

On Tuesday, Cujas was named the CAA Player of the Week, after putting together a strong series against perennial national power Long Beach State over the past weekend.

The Midlothian, Va., native started the season off on a tear offensively, batting .583 (7-for-12) with four doubles, three runs scored and three RBI. Cujas has reached base safely in all three games in 2012, including a pair of multi-hit games on Friday and Saturday.  Cujas was just as good defensively, recording one putout with 12 assists and no errors.

Cujas and the Rams will get back to work on Tuesday, for the first game of a two game set at Pepperdine. The Black & Gold will open the home campaign this Friday with the first game of three game series with Binghamton.
