RICHMOND, Va. – A pair of Virginia Commonwealth University baseball players earned Colonial Athletic Association weekly honors Monday.  Senior John Lenherr was named CAA Co-Player of the week, while freshman Chris Ayers earned CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.

The duo helped VCU to its first conference series win of the season as the Rams took two of three at Georgia State over the weekend.  After dropping game one of Friday's doubleheader, the Black & Gold rebounded for a win in the nightcap and snapped the Panthers' school-record 11-game win streak.

Lenherr hit .615 and scored a team-best seven runs.  He collected at least two hits and two runs in all three games of the series and raised his league-leading batting average to .448 on the season.  Meanwhile, Ayers batted .438 with a team-high tying five RBI and five runs.  He had his best game as a Ram in Sunday's series-clinching win, finishing 5-for-6 with four runs, four RBI, a double and a triple.

VCU collected 51 hits on the weekend and raised its team batting average to .304.  The Rams are hitting .345 in six conference games so far this season.

VCU returns to The Diamond on Tuesday, March 29 against Liberty at 4 p.m.  The Rams then host CAA rival Old Dominion for a three-game series April 1-3.  Game one is set for Friday at 6 p.m.
