VCU’S CULLEN NAMED CAA BASEBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University freshman outfielder Bill Cullen on Tuesday was named Colonial Athletic Association Baseball Rookie of the Week after his performance in the Rams' season-opening series against Fordham.
Cullen, who started all three games over the weekend, went 6-for-12 at the plate with a double, two walks and a team-high five runs. He collected two hits each game and reached base safely as a leadoff hitter in five of his seven trips to the plate.
The Colonial Heights, Va., native went 2-for-5 with a double and a pair of runs in his collegiate debut Friday, and followed with a 2-for-3, two-run outing on Saturday. Cullen went 2-for-4 in Sunday's finale.
VCU welcomes Monmouth to The Diamond for a three-game series beginning Friday, Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. Game two is set for Saturday at 2 p.m. and the series concludes with a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday.
