ATLANTA, Ga. – Even the rain couldn’t stop the sophomore duo of Brandon Allen (Trenton, N.J.) and Antonio Norvell (Portsmouth, Va.) from posting their career best times in the 100-meter dash.

Both underclassmen shined among elite competition at the Georgia Tech Relays this past weekend, a meet that was drenched by rain throughout both days of action.

Allen torched the track for a time of 10.84, while Norvell stopped the clock in 10.65.

“Both Brandon and Antonio had good showings at a tough meet,” Head Coach Julian Spooner said. “Some of the best athletes on the East Coast show up for the weekend and with the type of weather they ran in and still posted those times, it’s great.”

Norvell was scheduled to make a run at the 200-meter regional qualifying time, but the weather hampered those plans.

The weather had the same affect on the 4x100 meter relay team and Brian Wallace’s (Portsmouth, Va.) long jump.

“We waited around for several hours for the rain to stop and our guys to get on the track, but eventually our waiting time ran out,” Spooner commented. “We’ll take the next two weeks to hit the track hard and make sure all our guys are ready for regionals.”

Both Allen and Norvell have regional spots locked up as part of the 4x100 meter relay team. The rest of relay is made up by sophomore Allan Moody (Woodbridge, Va.) and freshman Kyle Jones.

Three other Rams will be making an appearance at the NCAA East Regionals on May 29th-30th in Greensboro, N.C. Junior Piotr Dybas (Jaslo, Poland) in the 3000-meter steeplechase, Wallace in the long jump and freshman Ronnie Black (Newport News, Va.) in the high jump.
