MEN'S TENNIS DEFEATED BY PENN STATE, 4-0
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University could not overcome an early deficit as Penn State upset the 27th-ranked Rams, 4-0, Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the Sheridan Snyder Tennis Center on the Campus of the University of Virginia.

After the Nittany Lions captured the doubles point, VCU (19-8) saw Penn State charge to a 3-0 lead with wins on the No. 1 and No. 4 courts.

With several matches still hotly contested, 39th-ranked PSU clinched the match when Adam Slagter held off Thibaut Charron, 6-3, 6-4 on the No. 2 court.

Despite the 4-0 final, the match was actually much closer. At the time the Nittany Lions clinched victory, the Rams were leading in two matches and virtually even in another.

Penn State advances to face No. 1 Virginia on Sunday, May 11.
