PICADO NAMED TO CAA ALL-ROOKIE TEAM

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Virginia Commonwealth University freshman midfielder Carlos Picado (San Jose, Puerto Rico) was named to the Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie team following a vote from the league’s head coaches.  The award was announced Thursday night on the eve of the CAA Men’s Soccer Championship in Wilmington, N.C.

In his first season with the Rams, Picado registered four goals for eight points and fired 27 shots, third-most on the team, with nine on target.

He had a solid start to the season but made a name for himself on the offensive end late in the year.  The San Jose, Puerto Rico native found the net in the Rams’ last three matches and four of the team’s final five games.

Picado had a knack for scoring goals late to keep the Rams’ hopes alive.  He registered a goal in the 82nd minute against Delaware and followed with a score in the 89th minute at Northeastern, pulling VCU within a goal on both occasions.

The Black and Gold concluded the season 5-10-2 overall and 2-8-1 in CAA play, and dropped five-straight one goal losses to close out the year.  Eight of the squad’s final nine losses were decided by a single goal.
