RAMS SET TO RENEW IN-STATE RIVALRY WITH CAVALIERS ON SATURDAY
VCU, UVA meet for the first time since 2003

RICHMOND, Va. – Although the new schools are separated by less than 75 miles, Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Virginia have not met in men’s soccer since the 2003 season. Saturday night at VCU’s Sports Backers Stadium that will all change as the Rams are set to host the Cavaliers in a 7 p.m. contest.
Not only will VCU faculty and staff have free admission to the contest, but the first 500 fans at the event will receive a free VCU soccer t-shirt.
The Black and Gold enter the contest looking to capture their third win all-time over the Cavaliers as Virginia holds a 19-2-1 advantage in the head-to-head series. In recent history, VCU has started to make up lost ground posting victories in two of the past three meetings.
The two schools last met in Charlottesville in 2003 when the Rams took home a thrilling 2-1 victory over UVA.
VCU currently holds a 1-3-0 mark on the 2008 campaign and are coming off a 1-1 showing in the 2008 Nike/Alltel Classic.
Sophomore standout Jorit Loehr (Bremen, Germany) has been outstanding for the Black and Gold posting two goals and one assist on the year and helped VCU to its first victory of the year with a 3-1 victory over Bryant last Friday.
Senior defensive star Dirk Dittrich (Stuttgart, Germany) continued his stellar career at VCU by helping the Rams hold top-ranked Wake Forest to just two goals and 12th-ranked North Carolina to just one goal.
Virginia enters the weekend with a 2-2-0 mark and are coming off two straight victories over CAA schools with a 3-2 win over George Mason and 4-2 win over Hofstra.
Two freshman lead the way for the Cavaliers as Chris Agorsor and Tony Tchani have combined to score five of Virginia’s eight goals on the season.
VCU and Virginia will renew their rivalry on Saturday at VCU’s Sports Backers Stadium with game time set for 7 p.m.
