SEGARES CALLED UP TO COSTA RICA NATIONAL TEAM FOR WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS
SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA. – When your home country calls, you must go.
That’s the case for former Virginia Commonwealth University men’s soccer star, Gonzalo Segares, who has returned home to practice with his teammates on the Costa Rica National team in preparation for its final two World Cup qualifying matches.
Segares, who is in the middle of his fifth season with the MLS’s Chicago Fire, will lead the “Ticos” defensive unit against the stout offenses of the United States and the Trinidad and Tobago.
Costa Rica has only been defeated on one occasion through the first four rounds of World Cup qualifying, holding a 9-1-1 mark, but sits one point behind the US in the fourth and final round of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The two teams will do battle Wednesday, June 3rd in San Jose in a contest that will be televised nationally on the ESPN family of networks with game time set for 10 p.m. EST.
Segares and his teammates will wrap up their World Cup qualifying schedule with a June 6th contest in Bacolet, Tobago at 6 p.m. EST.
A win in either one of these contests would virtually lock up a spot in the 2010 World Cup for the Costa Ricans. |
