ANNAPOLIS, Md. – With several injuries last year to his teammates, junior Stephen Mutisya (Machakos, Kenya) used the 2007 season as a breakthrough year. This season, Mutisya is proving it was no fluke as he posted his third straight top-five finish to help the Virginia Commonwealth University men’s cross country team to a fifth-place overall finish at the Navy Invitational.

With the largest field of runners in the history of the event, Mutisya glided into the front pack and across the finish line in a blistering 25:09.10.

For the third straight race, senior Jay Wyss (Richmond, Va.) was right behind his teammate in 13th place as he completed the 8k course in 25:35.50.

Junior Piotr Dybas (Jaslo, Poland) (right) was the third fastest Ram at the meet with a time of 26:14.50 and rounding out VCU’s top five were senior Joey Wingo (Richmond, Va.) in 37th and freshman Tyler Simmons (Woodbridge, Va.) in 50th place.

The Rams will now take a couple weeks off before returning to the course on September 27th as they travel to Greensboro, N.C. to take part in the 25th annual Hagan Stone Park Invitational.
