RICHMOND, Va. – Just hours before the Virginia Commonwealth University men’s basketball tips off the 2009-10 campaign, junior Larry Sanders (Fort Pierce, Fla.) is still receiving accolades as the frontcourt star was named to the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major All-American team.
The honor is the second of this preseason for Sanders, who was named Honorable Mention All-American by FoxSports.com in late September.
Rather than assembling first, second, third and fourth team squads this year, the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major All-America squad is one team consisting of 25 of the best “mid-major” players in the country. The squad is selected by Division I coaches and NBA scouts, along with the CollegeInsider.com staff.
Sanders looks primed to live up to all the preseason hype after posting a 22-point,14-rebound, six-block performance in the Black & Gold’s 85-55 exhibition victory over Virginia Union on Nov. 5th.
He was one of four Colonial Athletic Association players named to the list along with Preseason Co-Player of the Years Charles Jenkins of Hofstra and Gerald Lee of Old Dominion. Matt Janning of Northeastern was also honored.
Sanders and his VCU teammates tip off their season at 7:30 p.m. when they host the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman University.
