GAVIN LEAVES TEAM FOR PERSONAL REASONS
RICHMOND, Va. – Sophomore Jay Gavin (Seat Pleasant, Md.) has left the Virginia Commonwealth University men’s basketball team for personal reasons.
“Jay has made the decision that it is in his best interest to leave our team,” Head Coach Shaka Smart. “As a coaching staff, we appreciate Jay’s efforts and contributions during his time as a Ram. We wish him nothing but the best for his future.”
Gavin, who transferred to VCU after playing the 2007-08 at Marist, played in 17 games for the Rams, starting seven of those contests. He averaged 5.6 points and 1.9 rebounds in those outings, while shooting 36.3% from the field and 34.1% from beyond the arc.
Up next for the Rams is arch-rival Old Dominion in a pivotal Colonial Athletic Association contest. Tip time is set for 4:07 p.m.
