The High School Days

Stats for Days: Although his intangibles are what coaches’ raved about the most, Theus’ stat line was pretty impressive, as he averaged17.2 points, 6.2 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game for I.C. Norcom over his junior and senior seasons.

Trouncing Tidewater: That’s exactly what Theus did during his career with the Greyhounds, earning All-Tidewater Region Team honors during his junior and senior campaigns.

Our First One!: Theus was the first official signee for new head man Shaka Smart and his staff.

“D” for Defense: While he frequently is referred to as “D”, it may not actually be for Theus’ first name. It may be for his defense. He was touted as one of the best on-ball defenders in the state, with great anticipation skills.

Following the Leader: As the starting point guard for the Greyhounds, Theus was looked upon as the leader of the squad both on and off the field.

Definitely Smarter Than a Fifth-Grader: A T.V. show is not needed to display Theus’ knowledge of basketball. His basketball IQ was regarded as one of nation’s best in the Class of 2009.

Getting to Know Darius

I Choose You: Before Theus landed with the Black & Gold, he was being heavily recruited by PAC-10 power Washington State, Liberty, Duquesne and East Carolina, among others.

Love for Melo: Theus has a strong admiration for current Denver Nugget and former Syracuse star Carmelo Anthony because, “he just gets it done.”

The Hamburgler: That may be his new nickname as he lists a burger as his favorite food and Five Guys Burgers and Fries as his favorite place to eat in Richmond.

That’s Mr. Theus to you: Outside of basketball, Theus hopes to become a teacher one day.
