While at VCU
Fantastic Freshman: Burgess made an impact right away with the Rams, earning a start in all 34 games for the Black & Gold. His 7.4 points and 3.5 rebound per game averages, along with his .430 shooting percentage from beyond the arc, helped earn him CAA All-Rookie Team honors.
Big Shot Brad: It didn’t take long for Burgess to earn his nickname. Late in victories over James Madison (2/11) and Richmond (12/13), the youngster knocked down clutch three-pointers to clinch the wins.
Sharp Shooter: Burgess led all Rams with at least 75 attempts in three-point shooting percentage, knocking down 43% of his shots from beyond the arc.
Going Back-to-Back: His heroics against Richmond and a stellar performance against nationally-ranked Oklahoma earned Burgess two straight CAA Rookie of the Week awards (12/15, 12/22).
In Good Company: With nine points and six rebounds in 21 minutes against Citadel on Nov. 16, Burgess became the first Ram to start in his collegiate debut since some guy named Eric Maynor in 2005. Rumor has it that he turned out to be pretty good.
The High School Days
Won’t You Be My Neighbor?: Located less than two miles away, Benedictine High School allowed Burgess to become pretty familiar with the Siegel Center.
The Champ is Here: Along with current UNC star Ed Davis, Burgess helped lead the Cadets to back-to-back VISAA Division I State Championships during his junior and senior seasons.
I’m Lovin’ It: That’s what many players and coaches said about Burgess play in high school, which earned him a McDonald’s All-American nomination during his senior season with the Cadets.
Hoarding the Honors: During his senior season at Benedictine, Burgess earned All-Conference and VISAA Division First-Team All-State honors.
Boo!: Outside of his play at Benedictine, Burgess was a star for Boo Williams AAU, which drew recruiting interest from several CAA schools.
