Mia Nickson joined the VCU Women’s Basketball program as director of operations in May of 2018.
Nickson, a former standout student-athlete at Penn State, joined VCU after spending a season as a graduate assistant at Boston College. While at BC, Nickson coordinated and managed the Eagles student managers and assisted with recruitment of practice players. Nickson also coordinated with the BC facilities staff for practice times with opposing teams, helped organize meals while traveling and provided support with recruiting efforts. Nickson also helped organize community service opportunities for the Eagles.
As a player, Nickson helped lead the Nittany Lions to two Big Ten Championships and served as a one of the team’s captains for three seasons. She earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention Honors in 2011 and completed her career ranked 10th in Penn State history in rebounding average. Nickson was a two-time All-Big Ten Academic Team member and was named to the NCAA Tournament Kingston All-Region Team in 2012.
Prior to BC, Nickson spent time as a recruiter for Apex Systems for government contractors in the IT field. She also spent time as a volunteer coach for Saint John’s Catholic Prep High School and with Team Assist’s U16 Summer League team.
Nickson graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Labor Employment Relations and Communications Arts and Sciences from Penn State in 2013. She received her master’s degree from George Washington in Organization Leadership and Learning in 2017.
