Annie Zinkavich joins VCU after having served as an assistant coach at Virginia in addition to her current role as the co-director of the Panthers United Field Hockey Club. Zinkavich served as an assistant coach at UVA from 2012-2015. May joins the Rams from Indiana University where she was an assistant for the 2016 season after serving as an assistant at Siena from 2012-2015.
At Virginia, Zinkavich coached the goalkeepers and coordinated all of the program's recruiting efforts. In 2012, Zinkavich helped mentor sophomore goalie Jenny Johnstone, who was named the All-ACC goalkeeper and was also named to the All-Region first team.
Zinkavich also spent six seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Penn State. With the Nittany Lions, she also worked primarily with the goalkeepers and assisted in the day-to-day program operations. While with Penn State, she helped coach the team to five NCAA Tournament appearances including the 2007 national championship game. Her goalkeepers earned three first team All-Big Ten and four All-America honors. Penn State won the Big Ten regular season title in 2009 and claimed the tournament championship in 2011.
Zinkavich, a goalkeeper, played four seasons at Penn State (2000-03) where she was a three-time NFHCA All-Midwest regional selection and helped the Nittany Lions to the national title game in 2002. She was also selected to the senior all-star game in 2003.
Zinkavich has extensive coaching experience within the USA Field Hockey National Team and has served on the coaching staffs of both the Junior High Performance Program and the U19 National Team.
