Will Rothermel joined the VCU Athletics Department in June 2013 as the Director of Corporate Partnerships and has helped increase corporate partnerships to an all-time high of $1.75 million (2013-14) while managing signage within the basketball arena, radio & television advertising packages, game day program ads, in-game promotional events and luxury suite sales.

Prior to arriving in Richmond, Rothermel served the previous four years at Merrimack College (MA), most recently as Assistant Athletic Director. While at Merrimack, Rothermel worked alongside VCU Athletics’ Executive Associate Athletic Director Glenn Hofmann for three years (2009-2012) to elevate Merrimack’s corporate sponsorship, ticket revenue and attendance to new heights. In addition to managing corporate partnerships for the Warriors, Rothermel oversaw the marketing department, ticket office operations and the club sports program at Merrimack.

While procuring corporate partnerships at Merrimack, Rothermel more than doubled corporate sales and nearly tripled ticket revenue from 2010 to 2013. In an effort to engage students on campus and increase overall attendance, Rothermel launched the Ultimate Warriors Rewards Program and Junior Warrior Kid’s Club in 2011-12. This initiative helped Merrimack sell out over 70% of their hockey games from 2011-2013 and increase attendance across all athletic events.

Prior to the appointment of Assistant Athletic Director at Merrimack, Rothermel held the positions of Director of Marketing & Club Sports and Assistant Sports Information Director.

Making his second career venture to Virginia in 2013, Rothermel returns to the Commonwealth having completed his masters of education in sport management at Old Dominion University in 2009. While with the Monarchs, he worked in the sport management program overseeing internship and graduate assistantship placement and other day-to-day operations.

Before his time in Norfolk, Rothermel assumed the role of Assistant Sports Information Director at Saint Michael’s College (VT)--where he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2006 and was also a member of the Purple Knights men’s
basketball team.

Rothermel, who has volunteered for Special Olympics Virginia, the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament and Boo Williams Invitational Tournament, has also been an IAABO-certificated high school basketball official for the past three years and continues his basketball officiating career in Virginia.

A native of York, Maine, Rothermel currently resides in Richmond.
