VCU JUNIOR NAMED CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Griffin earns the honor after picking up two top five finishes
RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University men’s golfer Lanto Griffin (Blacksburg, Va.) has been named CAA Men’s Golfer of the Week after two strong outings to open the season.
The junior led the Rams to a second place finish at the weather-shortened Maryland Intercollegiate. VCU beat the likes of North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland at the event. Griffin finished tied for fifth place with a 4-under 138 over 36 holes. He recorded a season-best 67 (-4) during his second and final round of the tournament. Griffin shot a 71 in the opening round.
Griffin opened the season with a second place finish at the Rutherford Intercollegiate, closing with consecutive rounds of 70 at Nemcolin Mystic Rock, a PGA Tour Course. As a team, VCU has beaten 25 of the 28 teams it has competed against this season.
After a three-week hiatus, the Rams will host the VCU Shootout Sept. 29-30 at Hermitage Country Club. |
