VCU SITS THIRD HEADING INTO FINAL DAY OF CAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Virginia Commonwealth University will need to rally from 12 strokes down if it hopes to win its first Colonial Athletic Association Championship since 2002.

The Rams fired a 13-over 301 Saturday in the second round of the CAA Championships at the Callaway Gardens Mountain View course to fall into a third-place tie with William & Mary. Host Georgia State (+3) holds an eight stroke lead over James Madison (+8).

All-CAA First Team selection Lanto Griffin (Blacksburg, Va.) continues to lead the way for the Black & Gold. Griffin is second on the individual leaderboard at 2-under. He carded a 1-over 73 on Saturday and is seven strokes behind leader Allen John of Georgia State.

Rams’ sophomore Mark Jargren (Helsingborg, Sweden), who fired a 76 on Saturday sits tied for sixth after two rounds at plus-3.

Teams will begin teeing off in Sunday’s final round at 8 a.m.
