FOUR RAMS, PAST AND PRESENT, MAKE CUT AT SUNTRUST STATE OPEN
MIDLOTHIAN, Va.—A pair of Virginia Commonwealth University golfers have qualified for weekend play at the SunTrust State Open of Virginia at Independence Golf Club. Vincent Nadeau (Penhook, Va.) and Lanto Griffin (Blacksburg, Va.) closed the second day of the tournament in the top 70 to make the cut in a field that includes the state’s top amateurs and professionals. Also advancing into the weekend are former VCU standouts Ted Brown and Steve Jenkins.

Nadeau followed his first-day 73 with a 2-over 74 on Friday, putting him at 3-over with two rounds to play. Griffin carded a 4-over 76 during his second round, giving him a two-day total of 149 (+5).

Brown, who fired an opening day 66, followed with a 74 on Friday. He is tied for third with a two-round total of 140 (-4). Brown is the only golfer in VCU history to qualify for the NCAA National Tournament four times. Jenkins tacked a second-round 73 onto his first round 72, leaving him tied for 28th going into Saturday’s third round.

Professional Chip Sullivan, the only golfer in the field to record two sub-70 rounds, and 44-year-old ophthalmologist Roger Newsom lead the pack at 137 (-7).

Nadeau and Griffin will tee off on the 10th hole Saturday morning at 9:10 and 9:50, respectively. Jenkins and Brown will tee off on the first hole at 9:00 and 10:20, respectively.
