RAMS IN FOURTH AFTER TWO ROUNDS AT VCU SHOOTOUT
Griffin one shot back of the individual lead
MANAKIN-SABOT, Va.—Top-flight competition invaded Hermitage Country Club during the first day of the VCU Shootout. Four of the top 50 teams in the latest GolfWeek rankings teed up Monday. VCU is in fourth place after 36 holes with 18 holes to play. The Rams recorded back-to-back rounds of 280 and sit in fourth place at 8-under par. Wake Forest leads the 15-team event after recording a blistering 26-under-par 542 (273-269).
VCU junior Lanto Griffin (Blacksburg, Va.) is tied for third place individually with one round to play. Griffin carded a 9-under 133 (67-66) through 36 holes. He trails Wake Forest’s Brendan Gielow and Wichita State’s Dustin Garza by one stroke.
VCU junior Vincent Nadeau (Penhook, Va.) is nine shots back of the leaders at 1-under 141. Nadeau carded a 2-under 69 in the second round after a 1-over 72 in the opening round. Sophomore Mark Jargren (Helsingborg, Sweden) came out strong with a 4-under 68 in the first round. He followed up with a 3-over 74 in the afternoon. Jargren is at even-par 142 for the tournament. Junior Rafael Campos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) rounded out the VCU scoring, finishing the day at 2-over 144 (73-71).
