GRIFFIN, NADEAU TIED ENTERING FINAL ROUND OF STATE OPEN
MIDLOTHIAN, Va.— Virginia Commonwealth University teammates Vincent Nadeau (Penhook, Va.) and Lanto Griffin are tied going into the final round of the SunTrust State Open of Virginia at Independence Golf Club. Former Ram Ted Brown is tied for third, three shots back of the lead.
Griffin carded a 1-over 73 on Saturday, while Nadeau recorded a 3-over 75. Each stands at 6-over 222 entering Sunday’s final round. After firing a 3-under 69, Brown is tied for third with Jimmy Flippen, Jr. at 7-under 209. Fellow VCU alumnus Steve Jenkins joins Brown in the top 15 at 1-under 215. Forty-four year-old ophthalmologist Roger W. Newsom leads the pack at 12-under 204. Professional Chip Sullivan, the only golfer in the field to shoot three sub-70 rounds, is second at 10-under 206.
Nadeau opens his final round Sunday morning at 9:00. Griffin commences his round 10 minutes later. Both begin on the 10th hole. Brown and Jenkins both start on the first hole, with Jenkins teeing off at 9:50 and Brown starting at 10:20.
