INCOMING RECRUIT, BOTTERI, NAMED TO USA FIELD HOCKEY INDOOR NATIONAL TEAM

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – An athlete’s ultimate dream is to represent their country.

Incoming Virginia Commonwealth University field hockey recruit Megan Botteri will live that dream for the second time next March.

The goalkeeper will once again represent the United States as a member of the USA Field Hockey Women’s Indoor National Team, which will compete at the Indoor Pan Am Cup in Trinidad and Tobago in March 2010 with the hopes of qualifying for the 2011 Indoor World Cup in Poznan, Poland.

"I am so happy for Megan,” said VCU head coach Kelly McQuade.  “This is a great honor and a true reflection of not only her elite skill level, but of her character. We are very excited to have her in Black & Gold."

Botteri, who was selected as a member of the Indoor National Team for the second time in her career, was a standout at Bangor Area High School in Bangor, Pa.  A four-year starter, she piled up 29 shutouts and posted a 63-14-5 record. As a senior, Botteri recorded a save percentage of .910 with seven shutouts.  For her efforts, she garnered Pennsylvania AAA First Team All-State accolades.

The USA Women's Indoor National Team, which earned a Silver Medal at the 2008 Indoor Pan Am Cup in San Juan, Argentina, will follow a training schedule during the spring and summer months, along with a tour to Europe this winter, before concluding with the 2010 Indoor Pan Am Cup.
