VAN METER NAMED MCDONALD'S RAM OF THE WEEK
Redshirt sophomore tallied eight hits in series win over LIU
RICHMOND, Va. – It is only eight games into the 2009 season, but the Virginia Commonwealth University baseball team has already displayed that it can put up some runs. One of the key cogs to the potent VCU offense has been sophomore third baseman Joe Van Meter (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), who is third on the squad with a .484 batting average and tied for the most hits with 15.
His eight-hit weekend against Long Island has earned him McDonald's Ram of the Week honors.
Van Meter has tallied at least two hits in six of VCU's eight games so far this year and started off the weekend with back-to-back two-hit performances in the Rams' doubleheader sweep of Long Island on Friday afternoon.
His success continued on Saturday as she bashed three hits, including an RBI double that gave the Black & Gold a lead late in the first game. He then picked up another hit, two runs scored and an RBI in the nightcap where VCU rallied from 10 runs down to pick up the 12-11 victory.
Van Meter and the Rams sit at 5-3 on the year and have a three-game weekend set against Fordham University this upcoming weekend.
