RAMS HOST SECOND ANNUAL BASEBALL MEDIA DAY
Black & Gold joined by Randolph-Macon, Richmond and VMI

RICHMOND, Va. – The sound of a baseball coming off an aluminum bat can be heard across the Richmond area as the beginning of February signifies the start of the college baseball season.

Four area teams gathered on Tuesday afternoon to celebrate that start to the season as the Virginia Commonwealth University baseball team hosted its second annual Baseball Media Day.

This year, the Rams were joined by the high-caliber baseball programs at the University of Richmond, Virginia Military Institute and Randolph-Macon College.

“It’s a great event that allows four quality programs to get together and promote college baseball in the area,” Head Coach Paul Keyes said. “With the Braves being gone this year, we feel that we have an opportunity to give the area the great baseball that it has enjoyed for many years.”

The event saw media from all across the Richmond area gather to talk with players and coaches from all four schools.

”We’re excited about the start of the season,” Keyes said. “Each year is so different and that’s what’s great about college baseball. Every year you get a new group of guys and different type of chemistry in the clubhouse. This year is even more of a change for us because we are able to have The Diamond all to ourselves.”

The 2009 campaign will be the first since VCU started its time at the The Diamond that the Rams have had sole use of the facility.

VCU is set to open its 2009 slate on the road with a four-game set at Conference USA power, Central Florida, beginning with a 6 p.m. contest on Friday, February 20th.

After the four-game set with the Golden Knights, the Black & Gold return home for a 15-game home stand starting with a 3 p.m. contest against the Blackbirds of Long Island University on Friday, February 27th.
