FORMER RAM, DUBOIS, TRADED TO NEW YORK METS
NEW YORK, N.Y. – For the second time in less than three weeks, a former Virginia Commonwealth University baseball standout was forced to change his address.
On Thursday, Jason Dubois was traded to the New York Mets for cash considerations and assigned to Triple-A Buffalo of the International League. The move is nothing new for the outfielder as Dubois joins his fifth organization over his 10-year professional career.
“I’m pretty excited,” said Dubois after learning he had been traded. “I’m looking forward to this opportunity.”
Dubois, 29, appeared in 86 games from 2004-05 in his only two big league seasons with the Cubs and Indians. He hit .233 with 10 home runs and 29 RBI in 210 at-bats
His 68 career homers with the Chicago Cubs’ Triple-A affiliate Iowa is the second-most in franchise history. Prior to Thursday’s move, the Virginia Beach, Va., native was hitting .302 with 20 doubles, 11 home runs and 50 RBI in 91 games in left field for Iowa.
Dubois, who is scheduled to arrive in Buffalo on Monday, was a two-time first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection while playing for the Rams from 1998-2000. Following his junior campaign, he was named to Louisville Slugger's first-team All-America squad and earned second team All-America honors from Baseball America after winning the CAA’s Triple Crown, batting .435 with 19 homers and 74 RBI in 2000.
