FORMER RAM, BOLDEN, PROMOTED TO TRIPLE-A OKLAHOMA CITY REDHAWKS

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Minor league baseball players eagerly await September call-ups each year as Major League rosters increase to as many as 40 players.

Former Virginia Commonwealth University standout Jared Bolden was in the middle of roster realignment Tuesday, earning a promotion to the Texas Rangers’ Triple-A affiliate Oklahoma City Redhawks.

Bolden is expected to join the team Wednesday for the second of a four-game home series against New Orleans.

The Pacific Coast League is entering its final week of regular season action before playoffs begin Sept. 9.

Prior to joining Oklahoma City, Bolden was enjoying a successful stretch at Double-A Hickory, hitting .264 with six doubles, three triples, 22 RBI and 17 walks since the All-Star break.

A ninth round selection in the 2008 MLB Amateur Draft, Bolden spent 61 games last year with Single-A Spokane before beginning 2009 with Hickory.  He’s hit .248 with 24 doubles and 62 RBI in two professional seasons.

Bolden is the second former VCU player to earn a promotion to Triple-A this year.  Scott Sizemore was promoted to the Toledo Mudhens of the Detroit Tigers’ organization in mid-June.
