RICHMOND, Va. – For years, college sports enthusiasts across the country have raved about VCU fans. With 50 straight sellouts for the men’s basketball team, an unbridled passion for the Rams and a pep band that draws national headlines, it’s easy to see why Ram Nation receives such well-deserved praise.
This spring, Ram Nation stepped up its game with four record setting golf outings that produced nearly $200,000 for the Ram Athletic Fund, which directly supports VCU’s 17 intercollegiate athletic programs and its student-athletes.
In late April, Dr. Jim Neifield and Janney Montgomery Scott LLC teamed up to host the VCU College-Am, which produced nearly $25,000 for the VCU Golf program.
A week later, VCU Baseball hosted its alumni weekend and golf tournament and raised more than $20,000 for the Diamond Rams.
In early May, the Ram Athletic Fund hosted the Tommy J. West Memorial Drive, hosted by VCU Basketball Head Coach Shaka Smart. The event, which included a golf outing and silent auction, yielded over $120,000, nearly 25-percent more than the previous year’s record total.
The annual Black & Gold Golf Classic wrapped up the spring tournaments by taking home nearly $30,000 for the Ram Athletic Fund, more than a 40-percent increase from the previous year.
